Idris Elba Turns 44

Idris Elba turns 44 on Tuesday(6 September). I must admit that it has had an amazing year.

From Starring in six movies including Star Trek Beyond, Bastile Day and Zootropolis which was all released in cinemas to launching his own clothing line with clothing brand Superdry, he's been cashing out. More after cut.

Not to forget his was awarded an OBE. So with all that in mind, Trendupdates takes a look at how his career has span over the last 12 years.

Cinema domination

Elba has feature mostly on the screen as Vilain Krall in Star Trek Beyond, a sci-fi sequel with actors like Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Simon Pegg and Chris Pine also co-staring but that's not all. The actor voiced a Disney animations like the Jungle Book, Zootropolis and Finding Dory, also starred in action film Bastile Day and drama A Hundred Streets. That's a whole lot of accomplishment.

OBE

In early 2016, Elba was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire(OBE) as part of New year honours for service to drama

Nomination

Elba, this year, recieve two Golden Globe nominations; one for his performance in war drama "Beast Of No Nation and another for his ongoing Character "Luther" on televison crime series.

He also rexieved a Primetime Emmy award nomination for the above mentioned.

Screen Actors guild Awards wins

Although he got only nomination in two Golden Globe award, the actor went home with double accolades at the Screen Actors Guild Awards which was held in Los Angeles, CA, in January. He was nomimated for an entire cast nod in Beast Of No Nation too but went home with his lead performance in the film and as well in his work in Luther.

In 2017, Elba will play a lead role in The Dark Tower. He will be seen oposite Oscar-winner mathew McConaughey in the on-screen Adaptation of Stephen King's Dark Twoer Series.

Elba will also star in the role( which was orignally presented to McConaughey), Playing a heroic character Roland Deschain, a gunslinger who set out on a journey to find a mythical tower with the hope that discovery of it and it power will save his dying world.

Superdry Clothing Launch

In November 2015, Elba started creating his own line of clothes, collaborating with British fashion brand Superdry. He has lunched a pop-up store in Shoreditch. London, dedicated to Elba's collections.

In july, it emerge that Elba is lining up his directorial debut Yardie, a drug trafficking thriller. The film is based on Jamaica-born british writer Victor Headley's cult 1992 novel. The movie is written by Brock Norman Brock. Brock will story of D, a courier tasked with delivering a batch of cocaine from Jamaican to London. During his journey, He however, ventures off on his own with the drugs and finds himself on the streets of hackney, while hs former friends search him out - if they find him D's treachery will not be forgiven.
